今作では2年の歳月をかけてかけ独自に開発された新エンジンにより、選手の動きが詳細に表現されるほか、接触による衝撃も精密に計算。接触により受けた影響はゲームプレイにも反映され、各選手の身体能力を考慮した戦略を考えることも可能になった。
ドリブルは細かいボールさばきでディフェンスをかわすなど、狭いスペースでもボールコントロールがしやすくなった。フェイントにも多彩な動きが実装され、深みのある駆け引きができる。
また、グラフィック、シミュレーション（システム）、AI、カメラアングルやメニュー画面まで、360度、隅から隅までクオリティアップに成功。よりリアルでバラエティに富んだ試合が楽しめるようになった。
